29 weeks pregnant with TWINS - count down begins!

Its been an eventful few weeks. In my last post I mentioned that Brett and I planned a trip with our friends Leah and Carmen down to Vegas for what we were calling our "Baby Stag" and an early yearly trip we always do with these two amazing ladies..

The trip was absolutely amazing! Our friends Toni, Kari, Dael and new friend Lessa joined us on this trip to also celebrate Toni's 40th Birthday, and what better place to celebrate both of these things then Vegas! I can honestly say we all truly had an exceptional Vegas experience that we will laugh about for years to come. Thanks so much Ladies for making this trip so special for us both, love you all!

The day after getting back from Vegas we met up with our friend Candice who then took us on the adventure of creating a baby registry and let me tell you it was one real adventure. We are so thankful to have great friends like Candice who have helped guide us through this process and supported us with the tremendous amount of questions we have had along the way.

So many have asked where our registry is and we have set it up at Babies R Us (Registry # 61142742). This process was a bit overwhelming as we went through the isle picking things up wondering what this does and that does and with the helpful advise of Candice we were able to compile a list of things that would really assist us in bringing these two little bundles of joy up healthily and happy!  It was very surreal going through the isle and looking at everything you need before our little ones will be coming home. Looking at all the different toys, clothes, cute little bath tubs, etc... It made me even more exciting to bring them home. Filled my heart with so much joy and excitement! Its been really neat going through all these different stages throughout the pregnancy as you hit different milestones.

We have also had another ultrasound just this past Wednesday and I have to say it was our best yet. I got a bit of constructive criticism my last post from some ultrasound technicians when I had mentioned that I felt that many were disconnected from the expected parents and that I have not really had the greatest experience thus far. Our feelings were very real about this and many people have shared the same views as we have. I was lucky enough to have feedback from three U/S technicians and they kindly shared with me why they can not say much and how they personally are always connected to the best outcome for every child they scan. I sat back and reflected on there feedback and thanked them for shedding a bit of light on a subject I was not as familiar with, however they also where not part of the few not so great experiences we had. I errored in generalizing an entire field in how I was feeling, however each situation is unique and not all people have the same connection and values that these three had shared with me. So back to our last ultrasound... It was fantastic. Our technician was kind, engaged in conversation with us and did not give us any information he could not share with us, but was just very friendly which created a great experience for us! The babies were looking great, hearts will still beating away so strong and both were measuring pretty much exactly the same which was great to see! its interesting as these ultrasounds get closer to the end to see less and less in one shot as they are getting so much bigger! Our little girl, Baby A was being a little shy and he had a hard time getting a great shot of her, but managed to get one silhouette of her which was nice!

Raylene has still been feeling great too, she is truly one incredible woman. She's 29 weeks pregnant with twins and still working full time at work, and at home with the help of her amazing family! She also had the opportunity to meet Bretts Mom and Step Dad a couple days ago. We all had a nice dinner together and had a chance to enjoy each others company. As I watched Bretts mom look at Raylene's belly from time to time I could see her heart filled with so much joy and excitement knowing that her two little grand babies are in there being nurtured and loved by Raylene until we get to bring them home. It was a very sweet thing to witness and I was so happy they all had a chance to meet before the babies arrive!

The Baby Shower planning is also in full Swing! Thanks Lucy, Toni, Bev, Nina and my mom for all your hard work in putting this together. We are blessed with an amazing amount of great friends. Toni  and Dave have opened their doors to their restaurant to host our Baby Shower which is so nice because the number of people coming is growing by the day! If you have not responded to the Facebook Invite yet, please do :) We will be preparing lots of food and need to make sure we make enough! So So excited!

In closing.. The rooms are really coming along.. Carmen has the base colours on now, just need one more coat and they she will start the trees and really begin to bring the room to life! So so exciting. Our little ones arrival can really be at any point now, so trying our best to prepare as much as we can. We are crossing all our fingers and toes to make it to at least 35 weeks and with how Raylene has been feeling I think that will be a very real possibility!

Thanks for following, we have gained great friends from all around the world. My last post had over 4000 views in one afternoon from everyone sharing, so if you can take a moment and share our blog it would be greatly appreciated it!

Till our next update my friends, stay Healthily, Happy and Positive!

26 weeks... Boys...Girls....Nurseries....AND MORE!

Its been a while since I last wrote,  and so much has happened that I want to share with you.. Where to start though..

Since my last post we have had three ultrasounds, two scheduled and one 3D to get a final confirmation on the sex of the babies again.

So to answer our question and now yours about how are the babies doing and did we get a final confirmation on the sexes?.. They are doing fantastic and yes its confirmed 100% now that we are having a little boy and girl!! They are growing, kicking (Sorry Raylene) and bonding already. We had the special opportunity to see them through a 3D ultrasound and it was so cute to see them interacting with each other already! Near the end of the Ultrasound our little guy was nestled up to his sister and had his head resting on her chest. It was so cute and awesome to see this special bond starting so early!

Raylene has been doing great, She so graciously spent her 40th Birthday Party pregnant with our twins and was so amazing about it. She looked as beautiful as ever and near the end as her party was ending she gave Brett and I a very special gift that will give the warm and fuzzy to any expecting parents. She let us feel our little babies move for the first time. It was something so special for us both. I can vividly remember the feeling of the movement myself and then watching Brett's hand compressed on Raylene's belly and then his face lighting up "There they are! I felt them!" ... The look on his face was priceless.. It was our first proud Daddy moment together and we will hold tight to that memory forever.. Thank you so much for that Raylene!

So moving ahead and bringing you up to today.. Raylene is currently 26 Weeks 3 days pregnant with our two little angels. I get daily updates on there movements, sleep patterns (Or lack off lol) and their "Martial Arts" training.... Kick, punch, jab (Ouch).... As Raylene and I work together everyday, I always have the chance to stay connected with how she and the babies are doing and I feel so blessed for that.

Brett and I went out with my Mom (Grandma Barillaro) last weekend and bought all the nursery furniture. This was an exciting milestone moment we have been waiting for such a long time. It was so much fun! I loved watching my mom gleaming over all the cute little outfits she can buy her little granddaughter and grandson. She's already spoiling them and has been such a great help in preparing us with many of the essentials we need. We also recently had our friends Leah and Carmen over to discuss our nurseries and the design and layout of everything. Our friend Carmen is incredibly talented in her field and has sent me over two Mock-Ups of the rooms and how they are going to look! She is starting in a couple weeks and can't wait to see the transformation and share with you!

We have some of our friends starting the planning of our baby shower which is so exciting and coming up quick too! I am so excited to bring all our friends and family together again to celebrate these little ones and have a chance to connect with all the special people that have joined Brett and I in the amazing journey.

As the time comes closer and closer Brett has been finding himself facing a bit of anxiety himself. As most of you know Brett will be staying home and taking on the very vital and special role as stay at home Dad. This is a very big role for anyone to step into with one baby let alone two.. He's questioning his ability lately to be able to make it on his own while I am at work and I remind him daily what an incredible daddy he's going to be for our children and I could not have wanted anyone more perfect them him to raise our children. I think this feeling plagues most new parents. No matter how ready you make yourself, you will always have these feeling until you are fully immersed in your role as a parent. Brett and I have wanted children for so long, these little ones will have so much love and support not only from there Daddies, but our families and amazing network of friends!

Brett and I are also going to Vegas next week for what we are calling our "Baby Stag".. Our last big "Hurrah" for a while, so we are going to make it count lol. While I am so excited I have the natural anxiety of being to far away from Raylene and the kids and I can only imagine how I will feel about leaving them once they are actually here. When we get back Raylene will be approaching 29 weeks and we will be no longer then 9 weeks away from finally meeting our two little ones.

Wow that was a lot of information lol. I promise not to make it so long in between our next post. Thanks so much for following our story, we get approached daily by people who have read our journey and have been moved and touched by our story. So thank you all so much for sharing our exciting moments with all your friends and family and most importantly with us.

The Big Reveal Party!

Yesterday we had our big gender reveal party with all our friends and family and I have to say we were both incredibly touched with the out pouring of love and support we really have. This has been a long road for Brett and I and every time I look at Raylene’s glowing face and growing belly it makes all the ups and downs worth it. For those who may not know we hosted a Gender Reveal Party at our house and our Friend Elissa (THANKS SO MUCH!) made two amazing cakes that revealed the gender of our babies inside.. The inside of the cake would be Blue for a Boy and Pink for a Girl…

As the morning started we were both running around trying to get everything ready and thanks to the help of Bev, Nina, Lucy, Jeremy and Raylene(Thanks Guys!!!) we were able to get everything ready before people started to show up. The arrivals were slow to start but before we knew it we had roughly 100 people in our living room, dining room and kitchen… Thank goodness for an open floor plan lol..

As the day progressed the time to do our cake cutting came closer! Brett’s Mom, Sister, Niece and Step Dad were not able to join us in person so we had them set up on Skype on the counter as everyone crowded around trying to get the best view! It was incredibly overwhelming in all the right ways. We looked up to all our amazing friends and family and all we see is cameras and phones in the air taking video and pictures of the big reveal. They are all truly excited as we are. All these amazing people have become an extension of our family and will have such a positive impact on our children’s lives when they come into this world..

So the time has come to cut the cake, we are surrounded by all our friends and family in person and some on Skype and a group of special ladies who bought a data package so they could Face Time the big reveal from there trip down to the states. At this time my heart is pounding out of my chest.. This entire process we have been hoping for a boy and girl or two boys but honestly would have been thrilled with any combination. So with that said, Brett cuts into the first cake and what do we see…PINK!!!!! It’s a girl! Everyone in the room burst out cheering!  Yay we are 50% there lol… This little one was very stubborn because they had their legs crossed the entire time through both most recent ultrasounds. The ultrasound tech said they are 80%+ sure that this little one is a girl, and we are crossing our fingers it gets to 100% once they uncross those little legs of theirs lol.

Time to cut the second cake, looking around the room as it goes completely silent with everyone holding their breaths to see what the next little one will be. I cut the cake this time with my hands shaking with excitement and joy. As I cut into this cake what do we see….BLUE!!!! It’s a boy!! The “crowd” went wild in our house, via Skype and facetime.. We were so over joyed.. This little guy had no trouble showing its goods so we got a 100% on our little man here…

Reflecting on the entire day, I would not have changed one thing. Our house was filled with so much love and positive energy you could feel it. It was such any amazing feeling. In closing I want to say thank you for everyone that was able to make it and the out pouring of support via Facebook, email, text and phone calls. Again so lucky to have such a great community of friends and family, we do not have words to express how muh for love and adore you all. Our children are so lucky to have each every one of you to fill their lives with love and acceptance and we are forever grateful for that. I would also like to say Thank you to Raylene, Jeremy and there three incredible children. Your family has forever changed the landscape of ours. Raylene’s been so strong through this entire pregnancy and the love and support she gets from Jeremy and the kids is incredible. I could see the look in all of your eyes that you are just as excited as us for these little ones to come into this world. You all will have a forever role in these babies’ lives and they are extra lucky for you.

One last thing… We need help with girls names!! We have a few we like but nothing we have 100% set on.. Want a say on what we name our Daughter? Post your fav girls name below!

Lots of Love,

17 weeks and counting

Wow where has time gone… it seems like just yesterday we were in the elevator up to Olive Fertility getting ready for our transfer…and I blink and we are 17 weeks pregnant with TWINS! Every Friday Brett and i wake up to an early morning text msg from Raylene giving us a celebratory next week update of her pregnancy with our little babies,  which is something we have grown to look forward too…

This past week Raylene had three appointments, one with her Family Dr, the next with our obstetrician and finally the a waited for ultrasound to check in on our little ones. All appointments went great, Raylenes health is fantastic and babies are growing on track and have perfectly healthy little heart beats. Baby A is our active little one that is constantly moving around and was a little tricky to get a good picture off had a heart beat of 161 and our little relaxed Baby B had a heart beat of 136.

The last few weeks have been huge growth weeks for the little ones.. In the last 3 weeks they have almost tripled in size and are about 7.5-8 inches each! Raylene just had to go get maternity clothing due to there growth which is exciting in itself. She just got her hair done the other day and she's just glowing and as beautiful to be.. She met some limitation this week as she is now approaching the second half of her pregnancy and her body is letting her know that she can't do everything she is used to such as the heavy lifting at work, but other then that she's been the healthiest person at work as several colds and flues have gone around..

So to give you all a little more info on the last ultrasound, it went great. The babys are starting to look more like little people which is so cute. They are also both very close to each other which is adorable as they have room to be further apart, but are choosing the nestle up to each other. I am starting to already see why so many twins fraternal or identical have this incredibly special bond that non twins will never understand. We are already seeing the beautiful bound develop already, even as early as 17 weeks which is so amazing to see.

Many people have asked if we will be finding out the Gender or not… We went back and forth on this one and both decided that since its twins it would be easier for us to prepare if we knew beforehand. We have decided to do a Gender Reveal Party at our house with all our Friends and Family. Our Friend Elissa will be making two cakes, one for Baby A and the other for Baby B and when we cut into the cake and if its pink inside it will be a girl and if its blue inside it will be a boy. She is also making little bit size Baby A and Baby B cupcakes and she's going to pipe the co ordinating colour of icing into each one for our friends to have as we cut into our cakes.. The really cool part about this all is Brett and I will have no idea what they are at this point and will be finding out with all of our friends and family. The only ones that will know will be Raylene as she needs to let Elissa know what the results are.. So so excited for this.

Thats all I have for you at this time, feel free to comment if you have any questions and we will be more then happy to answer them for you. Many of you have shared our blog on your Facebook which we really appreciate as sometimes my own Facebook can limit its reach and not get to everyone that is interested in reading our story. I have had several message from people I have never met before saying they have been inspired by our story and want to start this process with there partners and need some extra guidance and support. I feel so blessed to be able to be that extra support for these couples as they embark on this exciting journey, so never be scared to reach out.

Chat soon my friends!

Empowering positive thinking - Teaching My Children to Dream BIG

Many of you who know me may know my story, but some may not know what shaped me into the person I am today.

Rolling back several years, I grew up in Cloverdale with my two sisters, Mom and Dad. My parents ran a trucking company and had the ability to provide a very comfortable life for me and my sisters and we essentially never had to go without anything.

Moving ahead a bit, my Dad cheated on my Mom and effectively ended their relationship overnight. Was their relationship perfect? No...Should they have tried to work things out? When I was a kid, I would have said yes, but as an adult I am happy they went their separate ways.  My parent’s divorce ended up being the most valuable life experience I could ever have and it essentially molding me into the man I am today.

When my Dad left, my Mom was a full time stay-at-home Mom. Her sole job was to take care of her children which was no small task with 3 active kids. This however left her untrained in the workplace to acquire a job that would be able to support us moving forward.

So just as quick as my parent’s marriage crumbled, so did my sense of reality of what I thought my life would be. I went very quickly from the kid that had “it all” and never questioned a meal to eat, to living in a one-bedroom suite with my mom, my sister Jennifer and with me sleeping on a mattress on the ground. It was a reality that I did not understand but now appreciate.

My Dad chose not to pay a dime in child support and essentially left my Mom to fend for herself and his children while he enjoyed his new life. I remember very soon after my Dad left, standing in line at the foodbank with my Mom and not really realizing what was going on. Wait, this is not Safeway… What?? Where do we pay?? With my Dad not paying any sort of support, my Mom had to rely on this to ensure we had food on the table.

Soon after my Dad left my Mom decided to make some changes and went back to school (College).  She wanted to get educated to get a better job so she would no longer have to rely on things like the food bank, etc.

Unfortunately, it got worse before it got better. I would hear my Mom crying at night so stressed about paying bills and being able to provide for us. She may not even remember as much, but the heartache and pain is still so real for me as she’s always been my pillar of strength.

After seeing the amount of stress my Mom was going through trying to make ends meet while also trying to go to school became too much for me to sit back and do nothing.

At the age of 10 I pitched the idea to my Mom to let me get a paper route. I wanted to try and take off some of the pressure from my Mom and help contribute as the “Man of the House”. My Mom was reluctant but I pushed forward and did it anyways. Not only did I take one route but I took on two separate routes and delivered for two different papers. I was earning over 300 per month at the age of 10!

I funneled much of my money to my mom to help provide for her, my younger sister and I. Every time I handed any money over to my mom she looked at me with teary sad eyes and said she would pay me back every single penny, which in fact she later did. I wrapped my arms around her at the tender age of ten and said not to worry everything will be ok.

This continued for a couple years until things became more stable with work for my Mom. I continued the paper routes till I was 13 and on the eve of my 14th birthday I got a job in a restaurant as a busboy. The managers were very reluctant to hire someone so young but found my drive intriguing and took a chance...That drive pushed me through the ranks and I ended up becoming the youngest Assistant Manager at 18 in the history of the large chain I worked for (Moxies). My drive did not stop there, I successfully pushed my way through multiple promotions through the various company's I have worked for and now have a final resting spot as a Business Development Manager in Chilliwack.

I look back and many could have chosen the wrong road with the cards I was dealt. I could have gone down a very dark path but I choose not too, I choose to support the one that always did her best to support me and my sisters and soon later younger brother..

With all good stories there is always a happy ending. My Mom has started an incredibly successful Driving School (The Art of Driving School) with Brett and I and she is now able to do the things she wants. She has the ability to no longer worry about money, owns a couple properties and is able to travel and road trip abroad.  With my Moms successes over the years she’s been able to support her kids and assist us all in reaching certain milestones in our lives we would not have been able to do without her.

Her hardwork, drive and dedication to her children is what I aspire to be with my own children. My Mom has always taught me to be a dreamer. She would tell me to close my eyes and visualize what I want my life to be. Her optimistic approach empowered me to do just that… Close my eyes…. Envision a family, my own children, a beautiful home, supportive friends and family and the means to be able to live my life the way I want to.

Many years later, I open my eyes and look around… I have an incredible Husband who loves and supports me, Amazing friends, A beautiful home, a great job that allows me to provide a comfortable lifestyle and two beautiful children on the way…Oh and we cant forget our amazing, loving, nurturing puppy Nikayla. This is exactly what I envisioned in my darkest days with my Mom, and staying true, positive and following my dreams has allowed me to create this incredible life we now share together.

So in closing, thank you Mom for teaching me to Dream BIG and showing me nothing is out of reach if you want it bad enough. I will instil these same values with our children and your forward thinking and positive approach will forever change the future generations of our family.

Love you..

Thinking of you Baby A and Baby B...

Today is Christmas and a great one at that. We woke up this morning to Brett's sister and our adorable little niece Ali waiting to open presents! This was Ali's first christmas and it was so cute to see the entire morning revolved around her to celebrate her first Christmas. I can't help but be excited to relive these moments next Christmas for our little ones first Christmas.

I find myself sitting back and observing much more then I did before. Taking in every minute and moment I can and reflecting how much Brett and mines life is about to change. This new journey we are about to embark on is something we have waited for so long.

My parental instincts are kicking in already, the first thing I thought of as my eyes opened this morning was our little ones and wondering how Raylene was feeling. This seems to be what I
]\ think about most these days. As I close my eyes to go to bed I say a little "prayer" for good health for Raylene and our Babies and I dream about them through the night and wonder how they are doing when I wake up.

This past weekend Brett and I went to yearly Dungrate Family carolling party. Its something we look forward to every single year and it has evolved every single year. Brett has been friends with the Dungate family since he was a kid and he's shared so many fond memories he has had with this incredible family. I myself have known them for going on 5 years and this was my 4th Carolling Party and one of the fun and exciting things I have observed is how the children are multiplying. Every year another baby or two comes into this incredible circle of friends and can't wait for next years carolling party where we can introduce our new additions into the lives of this family and friends we have met over the years. Another exciting fact, is Mandy (One of the Dungate Kids) is pregnant too and actually due the same day as us!

**ULTRASOUND UPDATE**

Sunday December 22nd, 2013

We had another ultrasound to check in on our little ones and see how they are doing. Many have asked how Raylene is doing and I am happy to report she is feeling incredible! She has had zero morning sickness, which is awesome! The only symptoms she has really had has been food aversion and shes been extremely fatigued. Jeremy has been incredible as usual and has supported her and helped her long the way. Shes so lucky to have such an amazing supportive husband and so are we.

Ok back to the ultrasound....They are growing perfectly and there little hearts are beating strong! During our last ultrasound they were measuring about two days apart however this time Baby B caught up in size and they are measuring the same now. Baby A had a heart rate of 174 and Baby B's heart rate was 151. Some have shared this could be a sign of one boy and one girl, which would be very exciting but we would be happy with any combination.

Moving forward we will have one ultrasound per month to make sure they are growing and staying healthy. Its exciting to be able to check in on them so often, but before you know it they will be warm and safe in our arms.

Well thats all I got at the moment, I hope all those of you that are reading this this morning are having an amazing Christmas with those you love and thanks for taking the time and checking in on our little ones.

Today we heard your heartbeat...

Today was the long awaited ultrasound that we have all been waiting for. It was quite a morning as every thought of what could be was rushing through all of our heads. We were all hoping for the best but fearing for the worst and everything in between.

As we are getting ready Brett and I meet each other at the bottom of the stairs and quickly realize that we are wearing the same clothes! Dark blue jeans with gray and white stripped shirts lol… Was this a sign? What ever it was it was a funny way to kick started our day with a good laugh.

As we are driving out to Vancouver for our appointment we are chatting about the last couple days that have lead to some unfortunate fears. Raylene has had some spotting in the last couple days that made all our minds go crazy. We once again hopped on the Internet searching for answers and found everything from this is a sign of twins to the scariest of conclusions. We all decided to stop searching for answers and trust that we are deserving parents and that everything was going to be ok.

We pull into the underground parking lot and I have once again those familiar feelings but x100… My heart was racing so much I could have almost passed out.  By the time we get upstairs into the waiting area I can't stay still.. I go from sitting in the chair, to sitting on the ground to walking around the lobby all while my mind is racing and praying. I attempt to read a magazine but all I see is images on the pages but can't take in the words. My mind is overcome with the prospect of us being dads. Our heart, our soul, our mind want this so bad and we don't want any results that could interfere with that becoming a reality.

Shortly after arriving we got called in to the ultrasound room. As we sit and wait it was the first time that day I felt calm and at peace. I knew at that very moment that everything was going to be ok even before we got the exciting news…Call it a sense, call it whatever you want but it was truly special for me to feel what I feeling.

As Dr Taylor starts the ultrasound she says there’s your TWINS! We all stay quite and don't say a word.. She had to say it twice for us to actually comprehend this exciting news! As all our eyes welled up including Dr Taylor's we all hear not only one strong healthy heart beat but we hear two. Raylene is carrying two fraternal twins which is so exciting because that means both embryos took.

This has been such a long road to get to this point but hearing those heart beats made every second of all the ups and down worth it. As we all sit in the room in aww we are mesmerized by each beat of each of their beautiful hearts. I am so excited to watch them grow and develop into perfect little loving siblings and additions to our family.

Dr Taylor shared her excitement with us and we truly knew it was coming from the heart. This team has been so genuine and supportive since day one and I am so happy I have them to help us and guild us through this journey.

The support we have received over the last two years has been endless and we could not be blessed with better friends and family. Right from late last night to early this morning a steady flow of text messages came through sending us thoughts and prayers for our big day. we are blessed to have all of you and you have no idea what an incredible impact you have had on our lives and we love and thank you for that.

I will end this entry with a note to our little "Baby A" and "Baby B"

"Today we heard your hearts beat little ones and it made your daddies so proud. It was as if our heart were all in sync. We have wanted you for so long and today we were reassured you were growing and staying strong. We cant wait to hold you, love you and share you to the world. Rest well our little ones, your daddies can't wait to meet you. "
